It disables the context menu on images only which means that the visitor can right click on links and on other elements of the webpage.

To install the plugin, go to WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New and then install this plugin. Once the installation process is complete, Activate this plugin.

Now you can check out your front-end (home page of your site) and try to right-click on images. You will notice that right-clicking on the image won’t do anything. There is a settings panel which can be accessed from Settings > No Right Click Images. Here is a short explanation of three settings.

  • Replace image on right mouse click: If this option is checked, it replaces the target image with a new default image. It means that if someone tries to save the image, then the image will be saved but it won’t be the original image. The developer says that this option might conflict with other jquery sliders and galleries plugin. Therefore after enabling this option, check your website to see if everything is working fine.
  • Prevent Drag and Drop: One way to save images is to directly drag and drop the image to the desktop. Checkmark this option to prevent users from doing this.
  • Allow for Logged Users: If you want to allow logged in users to copy images, then checkmark this option.

Closing Words

Of course if someone is determined to copy the images then there’s nothing to prevent him/her from doing so. This plugin will at least make things hard for some of them.

The best method to protect your images is to add a watermark to them, so that even if the image is copied, people can know where the image is copied from.
