These days, social media plays an important role for any type of website. You should always display social media buttons on your site from where they are easily noticeable, and it should encourage users/visitors to follow you on various social media networks. But one question that WordPress beginners would often ask is what’s the easiest way to add social media icons to sidebar in WordPress? Well, if you don’t want to get your hands dirty with coding, then you can use a plugin for this purpose. So let’s learn how to add social media icons to sidebar (as you can see on our sidebar), footer or any other widgetized area of WordPress.

Install and activate the Simple Social Icons plugin. After activating the plugin, go to Appearance > Widgets and then drag and drop the “Simple Social Icons” to sidebar or any other widgetized area where you want these icons to appear.

Now you can start configuring every setting from this widget. You can add a title, configure icon size, alignment, icon font color, background color, hover color and do such settings directly from the widget. It’s a good idea to ensure that the colors that you’re choosing suits your theme’s color scheme. To make these icons as flat, change the icon border radius to 0 and icon size to approx. 30 or more.

Below, you’ll see the option for adding the URLs to your various social media networks in the widget. This plugin supports icons for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Vimeo, StumbleUpon, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram, Flickr, GitHub, Email, RSS and Dribble. Insert the URLs for the one that you wish to display icons in the front-end and skip all others. After entering the URL, click on the Save button.

  1. Hi ! I downloaded and installed Simple Social Media icons but it doesn’t appear in my widgets options to drag. I’m using the Suits theme , does it have anything to do with that? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance 🙂
