instagram WordPress 3.5 comes with some amazing new features like a completely revamped media uploader and improved oEmbed support. For those who are completely new to oEmbeds, basically this feature makes it easy to insert content from sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter and Flickr by simply pasting in the URL to the post editor. The URL should be placed in its own line.

For example, to embed a video from YouTube, all a WordPress user needs to do is to paste the URL of the video page in a separate line. That’s all you need to do. The advantage is that the user doesn’t needs to worry about embed codes or switching to the HTML view.

WordPress 3.5 now supports three new oEmbed services which are enabled in the core and are ready to be used. These three new services are: Instagram, SoundCloud and SlideShare.

oEmbeds are enabled by default and all you need to do to embed a file from Instagram, SoundCloud and SlideShare is to paste the URL in your WordPress post on its own separate line like this.
http://instagram.com/p/aGxvHiyFG-/

WordPress will automatically embed the image from Instagram, sound/music from SoundCloud and PowerPoint, Word and PDF files from SlideShare.

To try out, add a URL of your Instagram photo and it will turn into this:
http://instagram.com/p/aGxvHiyFG-/

I really like the addition of new services to oEmbed in WordPress. Now users won’t face problem if they want to add media/content from these sites to WordPress. Do try it out.
