Just a few minutes ago, WordPress 3.5 was released. This new version is code named as Elvin in honor of drummer Elvin Jones, who played with John Coltrane in addition to many others.
WordPress 3.4 was downloaded over 28 million times and that’s because WordPress is powering millions of websites and blogs throughout the World.

You should now be able to see an update notification stating that “WordPress 3.5 is available! Please update now.” But before updating, I recommend you to backup WordPress. Also make sure that your active theme and plugins support the new version.
To update using the auto-updater, simply click on the “Please update now” link.
WordPress 3.5 comes with some major new features and improvements such as:
- Link manager/blogroll is hidden by default. Those who are already use it will be able to continue using it but new installs won’t have the links manager. Well, a less thing to worry about.
- The new version comes with brand new welcome screen. Starters or those who are completely new to WordPress will find this welcome screen very useful.
- Want to see all of your regular (must-have) plugins at one place? Thanks to the new version, this can be done. When you visit the WordPress.org, there’s a button to favorite a plugin. Favorite all the plugins that you like. Now, go to your WordPress backend > Plugins > Add New and click on Favorites tab. Type in your WordPress.org’s username and voila, you can see all of your favorite plugins at one place.
- WordPress 3.5 comes with a brand new default theme known as Twenty Twelve. According to the developers “Twenty Twelve has a very clean mobile-first responsive design and works fantastic as a base for a CMS site.”
- The biggest change that you will notice in WordPress 3.5 is with the media uploader. The user interface is made easy for beginners and you can now create a gallery using specific selected images.
Enjoy using new version of WordPress!
