These days we’re always connected to various social networking sites via our computer, tablet or smartphone. How about sharing all your social networking updates with your blog readers? You can post a social stream to your blog where your visitors will always be able see the latest updates from a single page.

For those who don’t know, a social stream, also known as lifestream is a stream of posts and updates from various social networks. It displays all your publicly shared updates, with images, videos and links.

Don’t worry, we’re not going to do any programming stuff here. What we’re going to do is to simply fetch feeds of various social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube by using a WordPress plugin.

Feed Them Social

Feed Them Social is a very simple, and easy-to-use plugin that can make social feeds from Facebook groups, Twitter, Instagram and YouTUbe video. Using this plugin is so simple that even a kid can do it.

After installing this plugin, you will find a new menu named as “Feed Them.” Click on it. From the drop-down menu, select the type of feed that you want to display.

For this tutorial’s sake, I have selected Instagram. You will now need to enter the Instagram username in the “Instagram field” and then click on “Convert Instagram Username.” This will automatically fill out the Instagram ID field.

Finally, click on the “Generate Instagram Shortcode.” Once you click on it, you will get the shortcode. Copy it and paste it in a page or post where you want to display the Instagram feed.

You can also post this shortcode in an existing page or post, or create a new page/post named something like ‘lifestream’ or ‘socialstream’.

Here’s how it will look like in front-end.

Looks good, right. These images will be updated automatically whenever this particular Instagram user posts new images to his Instagram account. When you click on the images, you’ll be taken to Instagram page for a bigger version, with comments and other details.

Same way, you can post your Twitter stream, updates from Facebook group and YouTube videos in your WordPress blog. You can post multiple shortcodes in a single page to display multiple social feeds, for example, you might want to display updates from Facebook, and then from Twitter.

There’s also a Premium version of this plugin that you can purchase which comes with more options that allows you to mention number of posts for Twitter, Facebook groups. The entire YouTube feature works only if you have a premium version of this plugin.
